Inside Arapahoe Acres: A Mid-Century Modern Home in Englewood, Colorado
Built between 1949 and 1957, Arapahoe Acres was a groundbreaking mid-century modern neighborhood designed around the idea that thoughtful, modern architecture could be accessible to everyday families. Its curving streets, emphasis on privacy, indoor-outdoor living, and innovative home designs were revolutionary for their time.
In 1998, Arapahoe Acres became the first post-World War II residential neighborhood in Colorado to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This home, known as the James House, is a wonderful example of the neighborhood’s signature mid-century modern architecture, with a central fireplace, clerestory windows, exposed brick, thoughtful indoor-outdoor connections, and a peaceful backyard featuring a greenhouse.
